A Division steeped in tradition and history. The 2nd Armored Division
was apart of the very first invasion of Hitler's occupied territory, North
Africa in November of 1942. Later the Division was apart of Operation
Husky, the invasion of Sicily. The Hell On Wheels Division moved onto the
Normandy invasion and the race across France.
The Iron Deuce was one of the first Allied units to enter Germany. During
the Battle of the Bulge, Roosevelt's Butchers put a stop to the deepest
penetration of the German offensive. After the Battle of the Bulge the 2nd
Armored Division again entered Germany and at the end of the war was
used as occupational forces.
Therefore; the Hell On Wheels Division was one of only a handful of US
Divisions to be used from start of the war to its completion. There was a
great deal of history with the Second Armored Division, from prewar to
post war. Our re-enactment unit proudly continues to preserve that
history since the late 1970's.
